Bria Florell: advocate birth doula with VBAC experience

HEY THERE

I am Bria (she/her), and I can't wait to meet you!  I'm passionate about supporting families (queer affirming) as you prepare for your birth through education, options, and advocacy.  My goal is to help you avoid unnecessary birth trauma and maintain bodily autonomy.  I do this work to empower you to feel confident in your choices, and stack the deck in your favor for your ideal birth.

Bria Florell, CD(CAB), LCCE

Hi!  I'm Bria.  I'm a wife and a mama to three little humans.  We live in North Minneapolis and love exploring new foods, camping & hiking, and spending our weekends at the Minneapolis Farmers Market.

My interest in birth work began after my second baby was born.  My passion is in supporting people in their journey to parenthood.  Everyone wants to hold the baby.... I'm here to hold the parent[s]!

After hearing countless testimonies from birthing people who wish they'd known more before giving birth, I decided to become a doula.  My goal is to inspire clients to tap into their intuition and learn about birth, so that they go into their birth feeling empowered, confident, and supported.

As a doula, I support all birth. Whether you're planning a home birth in a tub, or a C-section in a hospital, I'm here for it.  The most important thing to me is that we develop mutual trust, and that you feel comfortable with me by your side.

My personality is pretty type-A, and I love numbers and evidence.  One of my goals as a doula is to make sure my clients always know their options, and understand the risks/benefits of the decisions they make.  This obsession with the science behind birth led me to become a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and start teaching our Preparing for Childbirth course.  The course was designed to teach you ALL of your birthing options - not just your hospital's "policies".

I also struggled during my first postpartum.  When we focus on birth but ignore postpartum, it's like focusing on our wedding and ignoring the marriage.  But, there aren't enough resources and too many Americans feel our culture doesn't prepare us for postpartum!  This is why I created the Preparing for Postpartum Workshop - I want you to have a game plan to thrive after your baby is born.

I'm excited to connect with you, and work with you during this life-changing time!

As a first time mom, I sought out a doula because I had anxiety surrounding labor, and Bria made me feel empowered and put my mind at ease. Her childbirth education class gave me confidence to make informed decisions leading up the birth. During the labor, Bria supported me with hands-on comfort measures, coaching, and position changes. After the birth, she provided a delicious meal and put together a wonderful birth story that I will always cherish.  I highly recommend hiring Bria as your doula!
